I bought my laptop last summer and it came with Microsoft Office 2007 home and student already installed (I purchased the full version at best buy and they installed it before I took my computer home). I had to reformat my computer back to the factory settings due to a virus.  The HP support person I talked to said that the product key is located on the bottom of my computer on the microsoft sticker. I can't read the product key as it is worn off. Every single person I talk to with microsoft keeps sending me to a different person or website and no one will help me with this. I seriously need to activate this today because I'm a student and I have finals next week and 3 papers due tomorrow and my trial expires with one more use of office. PLEASE HELP ME I'm a 19 year old girl and a pre-medical student who has no knowledge of computers at all.

    Hello pears150,

The product key on the Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) on the bottom of your laptop is for the Windows installed on the computer, it is not for Office.  The bonehead from HP should have known that :-(

The product key for a full packaged retail (traditional disc) product of Office H&S 2007 would be inside the retail package that was purchased at Best Buy.  The PK is printed on a yellow-orange Proof Of License label that is located on the pivoting disc holder tray in the retail package.  Entering this PK into Office should "unlock" it and convert it to a full licensed and activated product.

There is a slight chance that the above may not work.

If you enter the PK from the package into Setup or the Activation Wizard and it is rejected as "invalid," that tells us that the type of Office installation that was put back onto the computer after running the factory recovery is the "2007 Office System" which will not accept the retail product key.  In that case, you would uninstall the 2007 Office System that got put back on the computer by the recovery process, restart, and then either install Office H&S 2007 using the full retail discs bought at Best Buy, OR, download the retail installation files for Office H&S 2007 from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/office/downloads/

Post back and let us know how you are doing :-)

The full version purchased at best buy should have its own product key printed on the CD cover.
