Perpendicular: type 22A5 then press Alt+X

Parallel: type 2225 then press Alt+X

ok, I tried that, but it didn't work.  Where are you supposed to type in "22A5"?  I thought it was in the symbols code field...

Just type 22a5 directly into your document (there should not be one of the letters a-f or a digit 0-9 before it) then press Alt+X.

Activate the Insert tab of the ribbon.

    Click Symbol > More Symbols...

Select a Unicode font such as 'Arial Unicode MS' from the Font dropdown.

Make sure that 'Unicode (hex)' is selected in the from: dropdown in the lower right corner of the dialog (above the Insert and Cancel buttons).

The 'degree' symbol can be found in the 'Latin-1 Supplement' subset.

The 'angle' symbol can be found in the 'Mathematical Operators' subset.
