I tried putting a "`" (backslash usually above the Tab key) in the Symbols box then the character.  Is there another way or could you give me a detailed procedure to do the Symbols method.

Activate the Insert tab of the ribbon.

Click Symbol in the Text group.

Select Unicode (hex) from the "from" dropdown.

Select (normal text) from the "Font" dropdown.

See if you can find the character that you want.

If not, select Arial Unicode MS from the "Font" dropdown; this is a font with an enormous number of characters.

When you have found the character that you want, click on it, then click Insert.

Note: the "Combining Diacritical Marks" group (from the "Subset" dropdown) contains a series of marks that can be placed over or under other characters. First, insert the character, then the mark.

    Hi,

if you want to enter one of the following french characters

    • accent aigu (é, á, ú, É, Á, Ú)
    • accent grave (è, à, ù, È, À, Ù)
    • accent cironflexe (ê, â, û, Ê, Â, Û)

    follow these steps:

    • Press first the key with the desired accent (at this point the accent wouldn't be displayed
    • Press secondly the letter and you get the whole french character.

If you want to get the accent alone, press the key with the desired accent followed by a blank.

    Regards

    Frank
