install office 2010 requires MSXML version 6.10.1129

I have Windows XP SP3 and had a fully functional Office 2003 install on this PC.  I un-installed it because my very first prompt told me I had to.  Office 2003 is completely un-installed including any extras (connectors, etc).

I have the Home Use Program (exe) file on my desktop.

I launched the exe file and received the error that I "need MSXML Version 6.10.1129.0 installed before I could proceed. Please install 6.10.1129.0 and re-run the setup."

I tried to follow some of the other posts and the suggestions were nice but they didn't have the desired results.

I have a higher level MSXML that I can't un-install and I can't install 6.10.1129.0 because I have the higher version.

I can't un-install SP3 for Windows XP and I can't re-install SP3 either.

I am hoping the HUP software is not the BETA of Office 2010 and that it is the Release Candidate.

Help...Please?

    Final Solution (4 Steps):

    1.  Un-install MSXML:

    • Open C:\Windows\System32
    • Rename all MSXML#.dll files to a .old extension
    • Restart the PC

    2.  Windows may prompt you to repair your XML Parser "...since none is found".  Click "repair" at the prompt or if there is no prompt...Install the MSXML Core Services 6.0 found at:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=993C0BCF-3BCF-4009-BE21-27E85E1857B1&displaylang=en

    3.  Install MSXML Core Services with SP1 found at:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=d21c292c-368b-4ce1-9dab-3e9827b70604&displaylang=en

    4.  Install Office Professional Plus from Home Use Program (HUP)

    The install completed flawlessly.

I'm sorry.  But this did not help.

    I have Windows XP SP3...not Windows 7.

I have admin rights to the PC.

I have verified the registry "Default" (full control) and the folder above it...all good.

I launched the Home Use Program (HUP) exe file.

The program extracted the files (shows the status bar) it completes and then immediately throws the error.

    Thanks for any more suggestions...Please.

Have you followed the steps given the article below?

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2290714

Try installing the MSXML 6.0 Parser patch and then check if it works,

I have followed both of the links above.

I have even contacted Microsoft and they have worked on my PC for over 4 hours.  Which is fine.

They (Microsoft; Windows Team) successfully removed the XML Parser and restarted the PC and windows "Repaired" itself.  The Office 2010 install failed with the same error.

The PC is at the correct level of Windows XP with SP3.

The Registry has been set correctly with "Full Control" and with the correct path.

The XML Parser has been successfully un-installed and re-installed by the Windows Team (Microsoft).

I have been told my original ticket is now closed and a new slave/child ticket is created to the Windows Team (Microsoft).

I will try to contact the Windows Team again...sometime this week...but this is all starting to make me a little nervous.  It seems like it should be pretty straight forward.  But it wants an XML Parser that is SP1 (6.10.1120).    6.10.1120 does not exist in Windows XP SP3 and I have Core Services for 6 with SP2 in the XML Parser.  It seems to me that XP SP3 does not work with Office 2010.

I wish that it would work.  And it frustrates me because I un-installed a perfectly good working version of Office 2003.

I worked with the Beta and RC of Office 2010 on Windows XP SP2 at my work.  It worked fine...just had to un-install the older version of Office.  Everything worked.  I never worked with the install of Office 2010 with XP SP3...I had SP3 for a short period and was then re-imaged to Windows 7.  And Office 2010 works in Windows 7.

    Hoping 2010 will work sometime.

    Thanks.
