The things you describe shouldn't happen when you simply press keys. They are typically controlled by 2 and 3 key combinations. These cannot be turned off, as far as I know. Can you give use some exact examples of the keys you press when unwanted actions
happen? We might be able to figure out something for specific examples.
There some other "automatic" formatting that you can control. Things like smart quotes, fractions, automatic bullets, automatic lines ... To control this (in normal Word, Starter should be similar) go to File tab / Options command / Proofing option / Autocorrect
options. Work your way through the various tabs and options, decide which you want to keep and which to turn off.
