How do I enable the "Linked Table Manager" button?  Mine is just gray.  I have Access 2010.  I've tried uninstalling Access and then custom installing it again with everything marked "Run from my computer" and it's still grey.  What am I missing?

    Hi Jme16,

Do you have any linked tables in your database?  The linked table manager button is not enabled until you select an already linked table.  To link to a table, you can go to the External Data tab and within the import section, choose what source you want to import / link from.  This will then launch an import dialog that will give you an option to import or link.  Then once you have the table linked, you can select the table and the Linked Table Manager should then work.

    Best Regards,

There was no selection for Access database in the list.  If it there were I wouldn't have had this problem.  Not to worry.  I copied all tables  from the back end to the front end and then split my database (again)  Of course if it weren't for the stupid message that my backend was not where it was expected and then stopped execution my code my code would have ran to automatically reattach my database's linked tables.  I wonder what dumb **** thought that up.  There are some things about Access 2000 that work much better then updated Access.

I don't have any linked tables showing on the front end but there are tables I'd like to link to in a backend end database.  In this case you advice can't help me.  Got anything else.

For future reference please do not piggy-back on an old thread, but start a new thread.  If you need to refer to an earlier thread then include a hyperlink to it in your question.

Nathan did in fact give you a solution for this.  He said:

To link to a table, you can go to the External Data tab and within the import section, choose what source you want to import / link from.

Once you select Access, assuming the back end is a native Access file, in the Import area of the External Data ribbon you will be presented with a dialogue in which you firstly need to select the Link to data source by creating a linked table option.  Then click the Browse button and navigate to the back end file containing the tables to which you wish to create links.  In the next dialogue you select the tables to which you wish to link.

Thank you.  I thought our computer guy sounded a little off when he said it should just be enabled without there being any linked tables.  It didn't sound right to me...
