Stop table from skipping to next page, leaving only the header row behind.

I have several tables in my document. A few are mysteriously skipping to the next page, leaving only the repeateded header row by itself on the previous page. I can't get the table (with repeated header row) to join back up with the lonely header row on the previous page.

Also, is there any way to attach a picture to this post? It would make my explanation much more clear.

No. But thanks for the lead. I deselected "keep with next" and that fixed it.

Variations of what you report can happen when the entire table is marked as the header rows or when the entire table is  set to Keep with nextKeep lines together ,  or  Page break before --all paragraph attributes.

To fix the header row problem, select the whole table. If the repeat header row icon (Table tab > Layout subtab > Data group) is lit, click to turn it off. Then  select only the  header rows you want and click the icon to turn the feature on again.

To fix the paragraph attributes, select the whole table and  in the paragraph dialog (Home tab > Paragraph group > Paragraph dialog launcher arrow), clear the check boxes before keep with next, keep lines together, and page break before.  Then go back and apply the attributes to only the rows that you want to keep with next (such as the header row) or to start a new page.

    HTH,

    Pam

try: the Table tab in Table Properties under Text Wrapping, open the “Positioning” button –> under options, make sure “Move with text” box is checked

Thank you so much for this!  I had been Googling for at least 30 min and not one other response to this problem suggested that.  Thank you!!!

Unfortunately, you can't attach a picture.

Make sure that none of the cells in the second row have "Page break before" set in the "Line and Page Breaks" tab of the Paragraph dialog (click the arrow in the lower right corner of the Paragraph group in the Home tab of the ribbon).
