Word 2010 will not print images or text boxes

I have a Word 2010 doc that will not print images or text boxes, of which the doc contains twenty or so. I have tried printing to different printers (different brands/models) in our office, to no avail. When printing to PDF (Acrobat Pro, not Word's built-in distiller), it works; so does doing a Save As using the built-in PDF distiller. Curiously, a single image in the doc does, in fact, print; it was imported from a 2003 doc (however, so were most of the other images that are not printing). In addition, I have a SmartArt component (org chart) that is printing fine.

Any suggestions on a solution are appreciated. Converting to PDF each time I need to print is tedious and should not be necessary when using the world's most popular word processor...

Thanks.

I think you are correct. This does sound like a problem with the printer driver. Check to make sure that you have the latest driver and then delete and reinstall the printer.

Do the nonprinting images and text boxes show up in Print Preview? If not, then the problem is probably that you don't have "Print drawings created in Word" checked in File | Options | Display: Printing options. By "drawings" Word means anything in the drawing layer (as opposed to the text layer), which includes text boxes (usually) and wrapped graphics (those with a wrapping style other than In Line with Text). The one image that prints is probably inline.

Today I ve experienced the same problem. I solved it (temporary) be storing the file under word97-2003-document(*.doc) and facing no problems at all during the printing. I hope that this bug will be solved in the near future.

I do have the exact same issue.

I tried the proposed solution and it worked fine.

However this is not THE solution!

Otherwise I want my money back from Microsoft: there is no need to upgrade to 2010 if you need to switch back to 2003 each time you need to print a document!

In general I'm also very disappointed with Office 2010: very slow, hangs many times, despite my brand new computer, 8 cores, 2 GHz, 8 GB of RAM, 64 bits ... It is much slower than my old XP, with Office 2003!!!

In my mind, this is not related to the printer driver since it works in the Office 2003 compatibility mode...

    Thanks for your reply, Suzanne.

The document appears correctly in Print Preview, and I also confirmed that Print drawings created in Word is, in fact, checked.

All of the images are set to wrap text in the Square mode, including the anomolous one that prints fine.

Could I be looking at some sort of printer driver issue?
