Right-click the file in Windows Explorer.

Select Properties from the context menu.

If the Properties dialog has a Previous Versions tab, activate it and see if there are older versions that you can restore.

Word 2007 does not automatically save previous versions as Word 2010 does, but, if you have "Always create backup copy" enabled in Word's Save Options, then you should look for a "Backup of <filename>.wbk" file in the same folder as the document (you'll need to choose All Files in the Open dialog). It will be the previous saved version.

If you don't have this option enabled, you might want to enable it now at Office Button | Word Options | Advanced: Save. You'll need to clean out folders occasionally, deleting old .wbk files, but this option will save your bacon just often enough to be worth it.
