Why is "Paste Transpose" missing?

Excel 2010: I am trying to copy cells and paste them as transposed. Every time I try to paste, the only options I get are "Paste", "Paste Link", and "Match Destination Formatting". "Paste Transpose" and all the other options are gone.

When I "Paste Special..." I get a dialog for OLE pasting (http://i53.tinypic.com/30krty8.jpg ) or some junk like that.

Both workbooks are in native Excel 2010 format.

Why is this happening?

I got around it this time by doing everything manually. (Thanks MS!) But it is only a matter of time before a situation arises where that is prohibitively tedious. I need this fixed!

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi,

In which version of Excel did you 'Cut' paste-special - transpose because I don't remember any version in which you could do that.

What you can do and I suggest you try is 'Copy' paste-special - transpose

Have a look here where it specifically notes you cannot 'cut' you must 'copy'

    Hi,

It sounds to me that you've got these workbooks open in different sessions of Excel.

    have a look at

File|options|advanced|General group| and un-check 'Ignore other options that use Dynamic data exchange (DDE)

Close one of the workbooks and then re-open and see how you get on

    Hi.

It does make a difference. Open both documents in the same session and you should get the paste options you want.

Open the first document then open the second using File|Open

    Hi,

One (non-intuitive) solution I've found to this problem is to not use the CTRL+C to copy the data - instead, right click on it and chose "copy". It is then possible to paste with a transpose option.

    Why? Who knows...

Experienced the same situation. The solution - as stated above - it to transpose on a new tab (worksheet) in the same file.

Many Excel features do not work if you have two instances of excel running and take data from one and put into the other.

Example: you cannnot "insert" data1 from ss1 before data2 in ss2.
