If you purchase a Product Key Card license, you can install and activate it on exactly one.  For Standard licenses of Office Home and Student, you can install and activate it on up to three PCs in the same household.  For other suites, you can install and activate it on exactly two: one on which you are the primary user and another portable device on which you are the only user.

If you want to install more than 2 or 3 computers, then you have to purchase Office with Volume license through which you can install with the same product key on multiple computers.
