Exit Word and delete the Building Blocks.dotx template; be sure to delete the file in your user profile (not the one in the programs folder). Restart Word (a copy of Building Blocks.dotx with factory default settings will be recreated). Does that help?

To restore the Building block template for Microsoft Office Word 2010 and in Windows 7, when you cannot get the Insert Page number because the error message appears.  Do this, drill down to this, where “user” is your name:

    C:\USER\USER\APPDATA\ROAMING\MICROSOFT\DOCUMENT BUILDING BLOCKS/1033

Delete the corrupt building block file**:**      ~$uilding.block.dotx

Make sure Word is closed when you do this. After deleting the corrupt file. Restart Word! This worked perfectly for me.

I had the same problem, but removing the template file did not do the trick.

A Microsoft hotline expert suggested the following which worked:

    • Delete (or rename) entire Office Registry tree from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office
    • Restart Word

This method worked perfectly for me.  There were duplicate files from a recent date that were corrupt.  The un-corrupted files were still visible and it was clear which were which.

In my case, the issue seems to correspond to a system restore that went slightly awry.

My document now looks much better.  Thanks!

I think this trick will help your problem...I am not trying this trick but in my opinion it will work. First you make new word document and than paste your content than follow this terminology.

First go on menu-bar of the word document then click on the insert button

Insert button >> Header footer block >> Page Number >> than select whatever position you want

I think you will get your solution...........
