Office for Windows XP Professional x64

I attempted to download/try Office 2010 on a new system  (w/ AMD Phenom II X4 Quad-Core; 4GB RAM) on which I am running the Windows XP Professional x64 operating system.  The install attempt generated an error that 32-bit XP sp3 was required.  In further investigation, I found no Microsoft Office products that list my operating system.  Can it possibly be true that Microsoft did not support this operating system with a version of Microsoft Office?   Or am I missing something?  Open Office runs OK, but I wanted to see if a Microsoft solution would do a better job of managing very large spreadsheets.

Thanks for any experience you may be able to share!

Jon

    Hello Jon,

Sometimes logic is hard to find. It seems that Microsoft does not supply a 64 bit Office version for Their 64 bit XP operating system.

When you will settle for a 32 bit Office version you can install it using the compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file

Choose properties and go to the compatibility tab.

Select Run this program in compatibility mode for:

    Windows XP

If you now run the setup.exe it should complete the installation.

It just did the trick for me.

    Best regards,

    Will

Office 2010 cannot run on WIndows XP 64 bit.  It says so right on the page where you downloaded it.

    "Operating System

Windows XP with Service Pack (SP3) (32-bit), Windows Vista with SP1 (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows Server 2003 with SP2 and MSXML 6.0 (32-bit Office only), Windows Server 2008 with SP2 (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit). Windows on Windows (WOW) (which allows installing 32-bit versions of Office 2010 on 64-bit operating systems) are supported."

Notice that Windows XP 64-bit is specifically excluded.

Office XP SP3, Office 2003 SP1 or later, and Office 2007 (all 32-bit) will install and run just fine on Windows XP 64-bit, in the 32-bit layer.

    Thanks Brian,

I did recognize that XP pro x64 was not listed after I began investigating the error.  The thing that would be useful to me is the knowledge of whether Microsoft ever provided ANY version of it's office suite for XP pro x64.  I found it excluded on every version that I could think of to check.
