It won't let me use any of the drawing features. They show up but are faded out. Is there anything I can do to change thing? I don't believe I ever had word 2003, would I have to have it to use this feature?

"Inking" is limited to tablets, I think, but you should be able to use the drawing tools. Start with Insert | Shapes and select a line tool to draw with or a shape to insert.

Actually, the issue is not "inserting shapes" it is in the review tab, where Inking only works with tablet mode - which is impossible to switch to unless you have a tablet device.

My problem: Windows 8 DOESN'T LET YOU SWITCH TO TABLET MODE?!?!?!?!  on a tablet-oriented device?  WWWWWWWWWWWWWTTTTTTTTTTTTTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF???

    Please fix this ASAP.

I found the answer in Microsoft Office 2013:  under the Review tab you have to first select "Start Inking".  Then the Pen tab will appear, and everything you're trying to do will be allowed.

That's just dumb. I work in a school where teachers have used inking in conjunction with projectors for quite some time. We upgraded to Win 7 and Office 2010 and now they have to bring in the old fashioned "write-on" projectors and Elmo's to teach. Teachers also used inking to correct papers digitally saving us money on paper. Does Microsoft ever think through any of these decisions?

Please find a way to re-enable inking in the entire Office 2010 suite. It only makes sense. (Now the faculty want iPads instead of PCs...biting the hands that feed you...Microsoft logic=illogical.
