I am working through an at home course for Medical Transcriptionist and am currently in the Microsoft Word portion of the program. I need to know where my page width option button is, for the book wishes me to open it, and then click okay. The only thing I can find is the page width button tab which just opens the page up full screen. This is not what I need to find. Please help! I am in Microsoft Word 2010. Thanks

Graham has assumed that you want to change the actual paper size (width), but I'm guessing your book is directing you to Zoom to Page Width. I gather that you've found the Page Width button in the Zoom section of the View tab, and that actually does what you want, but your book is directing you to select the radio button for "Page width" from the Zoom dialog and then click OK. You can open the Zoom dialog by double-clicking on the Zoom percentage next to the Zoom slider on the right end of the status bar or by clicking the Zoom button on the View tab.

Many people are unhappy with the new Ribbon UI, but your rant is completely irrelevant to this thread, which has to do only with different ways of achieving the same effect within Word 2010, not differences between Word 2010 and previous versions.

Why Microsoft removed the predefined tool bars in Office 2010 is beyond me.

Now every computer I sit at, I have to customize the interface button by button instead of just switching a toolbar on or off.

It's a time consuming waste of time and I'm sure very confusing for the people who can't figure out where the button is they're trying to add has gone to - or how to add it to their "custom" toolbar.

Whoever redesigned the interface should be kept far away from doing it again.

My department at work has >1000 users who are all very unhappy with the new interface, and I know another major health care organization where they're moving to OpenOffice because of this and similar reasons. Microsoft should fix this menu/toolbar mistake quickly.

Hi!  I googled the same question that you asked and came across your thread.  Are you, by any chance, enrolled in the Allied School MT Program?  I am also currently enrolled in this course.  I read the response to your question and was wondering if it helped you to solve your problem.  I tried this route and still did not understand it.  Thanks so much!  TL

Page width in Word 2010 is set from Page Layout > Size > More paper sizes. Note that Word relies on the printer driver to format page sizes and will usually ignore custom sizes in favour of the nearest available standard page size. Where this occurs, use the margins to set the difference.
