Have you checked the small icons up top on the right hand side of VS? One of them is show all files. You might need to click it to see all your files.

Yes, In Solution Explorer I see the root Solution node and then a project node.
I the root solution node, I now see [Show All Files] and it has been checked
If I Right click the project node and use 'Open Folder in File Explorer', it shows all source files in that folder.

Show All Files shows all the files in the directory structure of the project. In general you shouldn't have that checked as it can be confusing. The compiler only recognizes files contained in the project (not the directory). These are visible without that checked. If you need to quickly add files that aren't in the project but in the file system then showing all files, adding the files to the project and then unchecking it is a good approach.

Hi. Were you able to fix this problem? I am currently facing the same issue and it is genuinely infuriating. I have tried clearing mef cache, restarting my pc and recreating the project, but to no avail.
I do not see the small icon for show all files.
Also, the folder which does not show all files is cut off alphabetically. It only shows file names beginning with A through C
Folder view shows all the files, but Solution Explorer shows only some of them, not all.
The solution is on this folder: C:\Users\ZGOSPBA\source\repos\
The source files are on the desktop

You didn't really answer the questions I was asking. What kind of project is this (ASP.NNET Core, Console app, C++ project, etc)?
In Solution Explorer do you see your root Solution node and then a project node for your project?
You said that the source files are on the desktop but that wouldn't make any sense. If you have a solution open then the solution folder could be anywhere and the files would be under that. Solution Explorer only shows files that are in projects. The project type determines this. If you have a newer project (like ASP.NET Core) then you'll see a dynamic list of files based upon what is actually in the file system. However other project types have the list of files hard coded in the project file and therefore it doesn't matter whether the files are on disk or not, you'd see them.
Right click the project node in Solution Explorer and use 'Open in File Explorer' (or equivalent). Does it go where you expect? If so then you should be seeing your source files. Depending upon the project type they should be lining up with what is in Solution Explorer.
If the files are gone from disk then that isn't a VS issue. If you are using Git or equivalent then go to the Git window in Studio and then look at your changed files. If you don't have any changes then the structure should line up with what is in Git. Go back to that (in your browser) and confirm.

In Solution Explorer ensure you have no text entered in the search box at the top of the Solution Explorer window (below the buttons). If you have something there then you'll see a filtered view.
If you're running a newer version of Studio then ensure you haven't enabled one of the Solution Explorer views. The window should simply say Solution Explorer. If it has - VIew or something else then you have a filtered view.
You'll need to be more specific. It depends upon the project type as to what files are shown. It also depends upon whether you are attached to a repo or not, whether a solution is open or you are in Folder View, etc. Please provide repro steps for this along with screenshots if possible.
