This error occurs after every reboot. When I try to launch Access, with or without using shortcut, I get the message that Access failed to start correctly last time..."  If I answer "No" to "Do you want to start Access in safe mode?", the message closes and the following event is logged.

Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: Microsoft Office 14Event Category: NoneEvent ID: 2001Date:  8/1/2011Time:  10:06:20 AMUser:  N/AComputer: GV62014356Description:Microsoft Access: Rejected Safe Mode action : Access failed to start correctly last time.  Starting Access in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start the program.  Some functionality may be disabled in this mode.

Do you want to start Access in safe mode?.

Access does not start.

I attempt tp start the program again, receive the same message, and answer "Yes" this time.  The message closes and the following event is logged.

Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: Microsoft Office 14Event Category: NoneEvent ID: 2000Date:  8/1/2011Time:  10:10:03 AMUser:  N/AComputer: GV62014356Description:Microsoft Access: Accepted Safe Mode action : Access failed to start correctly last time.  Starting Access in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start the program.  Some functionality may be disabled in this mode.

after which a repair is started:

Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: Microsoft Office 14Event Category: NoneEvent ID: 2000Date:  8/1/2011Time:  10:10:10 AMUser:  N/AComputer: GV62014356Description:Microsoft Access: Accepted Safe Mode action : Access failed to launch in safe mode. Do you want to start repair?.

The repair completes, closes and I try to start Access again and the error cycle starts over with "Access failed to start correctly..."

The only way I have found to work around this is to uninstall, reboot, reinstall. Access will work until the next day when the process starts over again.

You could try the following to see if you have a specific registry key in place that may be causing the issue:

    +>Close Access.

    +>Open the registry.

+>Navigate to the following key:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Access

+>Under the Access folder to you see a key called “Resiliency”?

+>If so, I would first recommend backing up this “Resiliency” key by right clicking on it, choose export, and then saving it to a folder on your machine.

+>After you backup this key, I would then try right clicking on the “Resiliency” key and choose delete.

+>Try opening Access again and see if the issue reproduces.

    Best Regards,

I must admit that I am astonished that no one else has encountered this problems during the past two years. Have an Access 2013 based prototype of a system that I am developing running on three different computers (see previous post), and it seem to occur on all three systems on a daily basis. These prototypes are attempted to extremely heavily loaded production environments, and it is possible that I am exceeding the capabilities to Access 2013. If this is the case, I need to know it as soon as possible; because it is my long-term intent to migrate from Access to SQL. If I am exceeding the database management capabilities of Access, I will be forced to migrate tow SQL Server before I place this new system into production.

I did not mention it in the previous post, but each time the problems occurs it throws ID: 2000 and ID: 2001 applications event errors in the Windows Event Log. I have attempted various recovery processes including stopping Access related processes and tasks when the safe mode problem occurs. I am also suspicious of a memory leak problems with Access because my test will some time run a complete day without failing. Occasionally, when the safe mode problem occurs in one of my test systems, the only way of correcting it is to repair Office in the Control Panel applet.

Again, any help or suggestion that any one has related to this problem will be greatly appreciated.

    Nathan O - Microsoft Support.

I noticed that these posts are almost three years old, and the problem was occurring on an older version of ACCESS.

However, I am encountering a similar safe mode problem on Access 2013 running on three different PCs. One of these PCs is running Windows 7, and the other two are running Windows 8.1.

Sometimes, the Access-based applications that I am running on these systems will run for more than a full day, but when it occurs the only sure way of correcting it is to reboot the computer on which the problem is occurring. (It is important to note that sometimes even after rebooting the PC on which the problem is occurring; the problem will occur once, but after ACCESS is opened in safe mode once, the problem disappears, and the computer will runs hours without the same problem occurring again.)

I have attempted to correct this problem by deleting the Resiliency Key in the registry, but this does not solve the problem. Additionally, this is not an Office 2013 problem because when Access has this problem, all other Offices applications running on these systems will start without a problem.

As I mentioned Access is critical to the application that I am developing, and I am at a virtual stand-still until I can resolve this problem.

Any help that Microsoft or anyone else can provide will be most appreciated.

(Also, please let me know if I should be posting this problem on a different Online Forum.)

    Jim

    hello nathan,

i am having a very similar problem, only it happens with all my office programs and the error messages that i receive upon trying to open them include what teresa has written here, plus messages stating that the memory is too low to start the program.

i also tried deleting the resiliency key from all the office programs, but it didn't help. more than that, the key turned up again once i tried reopening the programs.

i also tried to use add/remove programs to access the installation menu and repair the entire office installation, but it will not let me go there, giving me an error message (it's in romanian, but i'll try to translate: "the installation of this process has deteriorated. run the installation again from the cd, dvd or any other original installation source."

i found on one site that said that the problem was about having mcafee antivirus installed. i recently installed kaspersky internet security 2011, but everything had worked fine up until today.

do you have any suggestions for me?

p.s. i am running windows xp service pack 3 and office 2007.

    Nathan -

I located and deleted the key as you described and Access has now opened.

Thank you for this tip. I'll have to pass it on to others in our organization who are experiencing the same issue.
