change encoding of word document

Change encoding of a document?

I pasted a Russian novel into MS Word 2007, so that I can use the help of “translate” for unknown words.

But the whole document is illegible.

It looks like this:                Åëèçàðîâ Ìèõàèë. Áèáëèîòåêàðü.            (I guess the encoding is KOI8).

It should look like this:     Елизаров Михаил. Библиотекарь.         (encoding windows 1251).

My question is:

” Can one somehow convert the encoding of the entire document, by manipulating the encoding in: Word Option/Advanced/Web Option/Encoding ?”

Thanks in advance

If I copy both example lines from your post, paste them into Notepad, save the file in Unicode format, I can open that file with Word and can see both lines exactly as in your post.

I guess that you has done something wrong when you paste the russian text.

    Andreas.

    Andreas,

Thank you for pointing out that I have to save it first in Notepad as Unicode, and then open it in Word with Windows(Cyrillic).

    It works. Great

    Gerhard
