Messenger keeps signing me out!

I have signed into messenger and when I access Hotmail from Messenger, it keeps signing me out saying I have signed in at another location. I never had this problem with Windows. I would get my message alerts, click on the mail tab, read my mail, close Hotmail and it would take me back to the Messenger screen without having to sign in every time. Please help!

Hey I had suffered with this same issues for a while when I first got my mac.

Searching around in different forums I found a solution. You shouldn't need to delete any preferences since you have no problem signing into Messenger.

Now all you need to do to rectify the issue is sign in to Hotmail > on the top right of the screen where your name is > left click > select sign out of messenger (or something along those lines).

Now what this does is it will stop you from being signed into messenger from the web every time you sign into Hotmail.

This was never a problem with Windows Live Messenger as that supports multiple location sign in, meaning you can be signed onto messenger from various locations at the same time.

In comparison Messenger on Mac does not support multiple location sign in, clicking through to email from Messenger Mac would log you onto web messenger in Hotmail & force sign out Microsoft Messenger for Mac.

A very simple fix. Why oh why MSN/Hotmail ever bothered adding web messenger into Hotmail is anyones guess.

    Hope that Helps.

    :)

    I am using Mac 8.0.1

I tried deleting the files but as soon as I opened up hotmail again.

I remember seeing on a version of hotmail somewhere an option to allow being signed in at more than one place at a time... when using windows this is possible, and the iphone app allows it to be open on Windows or web too without crashing.

Is this a permanent error until the next update from Microsoft?

What is the version of Messenger that’s in use?

Check if you are able to sign in to the messenger using another hotmail account.

Also you may try removing the preferences for messenger and check the result:

To remove your existing Messenger for Mac 5.1.1 preferences, delete the following files in the correct User/Library/Preferences/Microsoft folder:

    •com.microsoft.Messenger.plist

    •com.microsoft.MessengerDaemon.plist

    •Microsoft Messenger User Cache

Delete the following files if it’s Messenger for Mac 8:

    •/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Messenger.plist

    •/Users/username/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Microsoft Messenger User Cache.plist

    •/Users/username/Documents/Microsoft Messenger.log

(this file is only present if you turned on the Messenger Logging preference)

Check if that helps fix the issue.
