How do I get the display size in Word to be accurate on my 11 inch screen?

The display size (e.g.100%) set at the top of the document in Word gives a document size on my macbook air 11inch screen that is approximately half the actual size of an A4 sheet. Is there a way of adjusting this so that the display size is accurate?

AFAIK there's no way to change what 100% is relative to screen size.  However you can set your Normal.dotm template to open at a more acceptable size for you.

To do this, open Word and then choose File > Open and navigate to:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Tempates/Normal.dotm

Adjust the zoom factor as Daniel described. In addition type something on the blank page of the template and then delete what you typed.  You're doing this to make Word think that a document change has been to the template that requires a save. With the page now once again blank and the zoom factor set the way you want it, choose File > Save.

Close all the way out of Word and quit the application completely. Then reopen a new fresh copy of Word and it should open to the size you set.

    Hope this helps

    Try:

    1. In page set up, set to A4.
    2. on Standard Tool Bar choose Fit Width see: http://screencast.com/t/ALH9rVsP
    3. Fit width works best for me.

In any event try different widths until you get desired effect.

Thanks for this - I can do what you suggest.  I was hoping there might be a way to reset the display size so that 100% means exactly that, rather than 55%.  but perhaps that is too much to hope for...

    Thanks again.

Because this depends on screen-dot density—and I'm too lazy to look it up—I would grab a ruler and measure the width of the document on screen, in Page View, then increase the Zoom factor (use the slider at the bottom-right of the document's window, or View > Zoom), to come up with a value that will give you 210 mm across. Probably around 180% zoom.
