How do I stop getting this error? I close the spreadsheet and open a different one and always get this message. I changed my path to C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\Office12\Excel.exe "%1" when I started getting the error.

Do you get this error message only when opening files on the computer or is it with the excel application?

You may try opening the Excel files in Excel safe mode and check if it helps.

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run > Excel /safe and hit on Enter.

Note: There is space between Excel and (/) slash.

You may also backup the files and clear the Excel startup folder and check if this resolves the issue.

    Windows vista or 7:

    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Xlstart
    • C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\STARTUP

    Windows XP:

    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Xlstart
    • C:\Documents and Settings*username*\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\Xlstart
