Hardware:

  1. Dell Studio 1558
  2. Dell Lattitude D520

OS:

  1. Studio is running Windows 7 Home Premium x64-bit
  2. Lattitude is running Windows 7 Professional x32-bit

Office Version:

Both laptops are running Office 2010 Professional

Error Message:

PowerPoint found an error that it can’t correct... You should save presentations, quit, and then restart PowerPoint.

Steps to recreate:

  1. Where: Create a powerpoint presentation on Lattitude computer
  2. What: Format should be .pptx
  3. Where: Open the powerpoint presentation on Studio computer
  4. What: Error popup occurs whenever you open this file and continues to appear

Workaround:

  1. Press Enter, which will initiate the OK button and simultaneously press Enable Editing at the top of the screen
  2. It may take a couple tries, in order to click them at the exact same time, but if done correctly the file will open

Reason to fix:

This causes a tremendous amount of frustration, because I cannot edit the file seamlessly, without exerting extra effort.  I would like to know if there is a fix in order.  Thank you.

I took your advice, in terms of a workaround, but I would like Microsoft to fix this issue on a permanent basis.

Your advice: Adjust settings in Trust Center

What I did:

  1. File>Options>Trust Center> :Click Trust Center Settings
  2. Select Trusted Locations> :Click Add new location
  3. Click Browse>Select location and press OK>OK
  4. Opened file in question>Successfully Opened

Thanks again for all of your help.

    Help please!

I get this message with EVERY ppt I try to edit, even a new one from this computer. i tried everything in the trust center settings window, and still I can not edit anything (not new ones, nor existing ones I am pulling from dropbox, even when I made dropbox a "trusted location"

Is there any way I can jus disable the whole trust center?

    Thanks!

    Conns

    1. Local drive, on the Desktop.
    2. This happens with any .pptx file that was created on the 32-bit Windows 7 machine

I have included a screenshot to show more detail on my blog here

As far as the error logs, what would you like me to post specifically.

Could PPT be marking the file as unsafe?

Check by right clicking a file > properties

In the general Tab is there a security message and an UNBLOCK option?

If unblocking works you might want to adjust the settings in Options >> Trust Center > Trust Center Settings >> Protected View and/or File Block Settings though this may reduce your security.

Where are you trying to save the .pptx file (Local Drive or Network drive)?

Does it happen with all files or one particular .pptx file?

Post the Error report logged into the Windows 7 event viewer.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer

You may also restart the system in Windows 7 clean boot and check how it works.
