Importing pictures into Excel

I need to create an inventory from photographs. I have a file of 200-odd resized images (all 6K) that I want to import into a column in a spreadsheet to then add names, descriptions, value etc.

How to do this that does not involve inserting one by one, sizing, adjusting properties to embed the image and so on?

Thanks

Trevor

Excel all by itself doesn't support what you are trying to accomplish. Pictures in Excel are in layers above the grid. There's no way to make the part of the grid itself, so they are floating above the grid and can be positioned and resized to appear as if they are in the cells.

If I were doing this I would use Excel as the data source for a Word Mail Merge that uses the INCLUDEPICTURE Word field. In Word, pictures are able to be included in the grid of a table. I would use a column in an Excel workbook to store the complete file path to each picture that is to be displayed.

In other words they can't be bothered with such nit-pic details as creating a Version for Mac platform.

I have found another application or extension that is supposed to work the same for Mac

**http://excel-image-assistant.com/** supposed to work with 2011. License Fee seems reasonable.

Every application is built for a specific purpose. It's a bit like expecting a screwdriver to have a radio installed in its handle.

It's a shame the developer of Picture Manager for Excel did not program for cross-platform compatbility.  It's obvious that sales of the product will be lost due to this oversight.

    Trevor,

While I realize that you're using a Mac and your post is over a year old, but if you're still interested in such tool there is a newly released addin software available for Microsoft Excel on Windows platform called Picture Manager For Excel from Doality which does exactly what you want and then some.  Check out the quick video of this add-in in action at their website at Doality.com and you’ll see what I mean.

It allows quick insertion of bulk pictures into cells of choice, sized to fit cell I may add, as well as easy removal of all/any images either from a single Excel worksheet or multiple Excel workbooks in less time than you can say “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.  1234567890”.

    All the best,

    Artemy
