Which temps?

If you are talking about ~WRL000#.tmp you can't stop them. Word creates and deletes them automatically when you close the files normally.  They are left behind if Word does not close normally. After you start word next time and finish using the recovery option close word again and then you can delete any of these remaining files.

I was able to muddle through to install the Windows Recovery Console.  I was asked to name (number) the Windows _____.  Not knowing what that meant, I tried "w" (for WORD, but was remonstrated.  (I didn't think that was correct - WORD not being a part of Windows), but had no better idea.  I exited.  Next time I took a chance and typed "1".  The screen then asked for the Administrator's ID.  I collapsed at that point.  I understand your answer concerning how .tmp files might remain, but deletions remain a mystery.  If one looks at the number of queries on the web by people asking for a way to deleted .tmp files, I think that Microsoft should consider publishing a simplified checklist.  Win or lose, thanks for you aid.
