Copying Layered and Grouped objects as a whole to JPEG format

I don't understand how to copy a group object to a jpeg format consistently. Sometimes the grouped object will only copy the top layer, sometimes it copies the entire thing, but I don't understand why. How can I make sure it always copies all layers. I know they are grouped because I can move the layered object around as a whole on my desktop

Try holding down the left mouse button and 'drawing' a rectangle around the layered objects and then Arrange > Group. And I don't mean to literally draw a rectangle object, just the act of tracing or drawing a rectangle around a group of obects allows you to select all the objects within that action. With luck this will select all the layers and group them together and allow you to save as an image. I sometimes zoom out in order to make it easier to 'draw' that rectangle.

I don't know how much wisdom I have...less and less some days, but I will throw out another idea...

I haven't had to deal with more than a few layers and so saving as an image has never been an issue. Try grouping the elements together as you build the 'object'. In other words after you have added a layer/object to the base layer/object, group the two together before you add a third, and then group the third to the original group before you add the 4th etc. By making sure each added element is grouped with the group as you build your 'object' then perhaps by the time you are done you will be able to right click and save as an image as you want.

If you find that works, it may be that you can group 4 or 5 layers together, then build a seperate object of 4 or 5 layers grouped to together and then drag that one on top the first group, arrange and group. In other words do things in batches.

I suggest a variation of this work flow because if you have 10+ objects you are layering, then obviously you are not able to group them all together by conventional means if some are left behind when you right click save as an image.

By the way, as J brought it up, I assume you know that you cannot group elements that are on the Master page with elements that are not...

This is how I always group objects. I am very familiar with the grouping process, but even successfully grouped in Publisher the whole image will not save as a jpeg (I can have 10+ layers sometimes with different photos, text, outlines, color boxes etc.)., but often only the top layer will copy even when everything is selected in Publisher.

Do the following steps make any difference?

When ready to save go to...File / Save As...

    Choose a save location...

    Enter a name ...

Open the 'Save As Type' drop window and

choose an image format like...jpg, png, tif...

    Left click the Save button...

I'm sorry-- I should clarify. I know the process of saving things as jpeg images; I use that function constantly --that's not the problem.  I have no trouble saving one layer images. The problem is that when I design a layered and grouped graphic in Publisher I can't seem to get all the layers to save as a composite image--at least not consistently. Usually the image will save as only the top layer, which is usually just text. I need to be able to design multiple layer images for uploading into my blogs.  I know the objects are grouped correctly in Publisher because I can move them as a group and can copy and paste them within the program but I can't seem to save them outside of the program--in their entirety. Is there a certain order that layering needs to be grouped in order for all of the layers to save? I need a way to transport these image designs to other programs and have means of uploading the graphics to my blogs online. Sometimes I get "lucky" and the full image will save as a jpeg image, which obviously means that I just don't know what I am doing right or wrong. I've also tried to process saving them in other image formats but the same thing happens. Does anyone have experience with this?
