How to change font + paragraph spacing in Word 2010 table style?

Hello,

When I created a new table style, I couldn’t change font + paragraph spacing. Word is attaching the “normal” style to table content. My “normal” style is configured with Times NR, font 12, spacing 1.5. I would like to set my table style to apply Times NR, font 10, spacing simple. My table style is based on “Table Normal” and I couldn’t change nothing in “Table Normal” as well.

My question is similar that mentioned in http://www.wordbanter.com/showthread.php?t=40210 . But I couldn’t find clear answer in mentioned thread.

Many thanks in advance,

Cadu

Change the defaults to be exactly the same as  what you have in in the normal paragraph style.  To get to the defaults, click Alt+Ctrl+Shft+s to show the Styles pane.  Then click  Manage Styles button > Set Default tab.

Once this is done, the settings in normal will no longer override those in the table style.

Refer to the link below that talks about how to apply table styles and check if it helps:

For table styles, or any style-based font formatting, to work in table cells, you must also make sure that the formatting of your Normal style matches your document defaults (document defaults can be defined on the Set Defaults tab of the Manage Styles dialog box in your screen shot). This isn't at all logical, but it does work.

This is another example of how the MS designers made our lives harder. From the first Word for Windows through Word 2003, one could right click and simply change the paragraph formatting within a table cell. This made it easy to customize tables. Like almost everything else in the "new Word(s)", it is a pain to do.  Maybe someone from MS will explain why this option was removed?

    Thanks everybody for information.

It seems table style is a little fuzzy.

The way I could accomplish the font + paragraph spacing in tables:

    1. I created a paragraph style with with desired font + paragraph spacing.
    2. I created a table style with desired head + shading formatting.
    3. When a table is created I applied 1 + 2.

    Best,

    Cadu
