Text Import Wizard option not showing in Paste Options Dialog

I thought choosing "Paste Special..." and choosing "Text" was supposed to show the "Use Text Import Wizard" in the Paste Options dialog.  Am I mistaken?

If it is supposed to show, does anyone have any ideas as to why it might not? If I paste the text into an text-editor like GVIM or EMACS and then into Excel, Ido see the "Use Text Import Wizard"option.  However, I thought I used to see it when pasting, say HTML, and choosing "Paste Special..." + Text. No longer...

This happened to me on Office 2007 and I just gave up and used the intermediate text-editor work-around.  I'd really prefer not to do that.

YES, you are mistaken. Text under Paste Special , is to only copy the text from the copied location or source.

Text option paste's the only the text without any formatting from source. It is just plain text.

I think I may have figured a workaround.

Paste the contents of a delimited string into a single cell.

Next click on the cell that you just pasted the data into and select the "text to columns" option from the data tab.

This will open the same dialogue window that we are all so familiar with that allows you to import the data into separate columns.

I know the issue I found a work around for my issue. Maybe it works for you too

I past my data normal in excel, I select data tab in the task bar and click on Text to Columns, ( on the right or the filter button ) after that the text wizard appears.

This happens when excel detects html styling in your clipboard. Paste into a plain text editor (like notepad) and copy again to get rid of the html styling. Now you should see text importer option.

I realize that this is an old thread, but I just wanted to mention that the same exact problem occurs in Excel 2013, too, and your workaround works perfectly there, too. I wish, Steve Bianchi, I could mark your reply (which 31 folks have found helpful) as the answer -- instead of the snide, unhelpful remark which is, inexplicably, marked as the answer.
