Word 2010 displays an error message every time I close it and will not save files

Every time I close out of Word 2010, I get an error message which says: "This feature requires MSXML 6.0 to be properly installed. Run Setup and click Repair to restore this component."  I click "Ok" and another error message saying "A file error has occurred. (C:\Users.....\Normal.dotm)" Then I click "Ok" and it takes me to the Save As screen in the templates folder.  Then I click Cancel and it goes to a grey screen as if I've closed out all my documents but still have Word open. Then I try to close out again and it goes to an error screen which says "Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal. Do you want to save those changes?" I click Don't Save and finally get out of Word.  This is a very annoying way to close out Word, but the bigger problem is that it goes through a similar error message cycle when I try to save a file, and ends up not saving the file.  Powerpoint and Excel are having issues when I try to save a new file as well, although opening an old file and saving changes seems to work.

Follow the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the following KB article to fix the issue with Word and see if it helps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918064

What happens when you try saving a new Excel or PowerPoint file (Do you receive any error)?

Repair Office 2010 and see verify whether issue re-occurs.

To repair Office 2010 go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features\select Microsoft Office 2010 > Change > Repair > Continue.

I know this is an old tread, but i ran into the same issue on a Microsoft Server 2003 terminal server I maintain and Microsoft Office 2010.  The solution ended up being to uninstall and re-install MSXLM 6.0 with Service pack 2.  Just thought i would post it here if other run into this.

I had a chance to try the first two workarounds and neither worked. I've already tried the repair option, which didn't work either. As to the problem with excel, I get this error message when I try to save a spreadsheet: "Errors were detected while saving 'C:\Users\Matt\Documents\Test.xlsx'. Microsoft Excel may be able to save the file by removing or repairing some features. To make the repairs in a new file, click Continue. To cancel saving the file, click Cancel."  When I try to save in powerpoint, a message pops up and says "Microsoft PowerPoint has stopped working  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I forgot to mention what I've done. I did a system restore which didn't work, so I restored it back. I also went to the programs and features panel and tried to repair office 2010 and MSXML 4.0 SP2
