error when trying to uninstall office 2010

Hi.

I initially had Microsoft starter edition, and as it is not the full version I installed Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 and it was successful, but Work disdnt run as smoothly so i thought i will re-install and see.

The unistall process was taking a long time so i cancelled it  half way and thought i'd try again, but this time it didn't work! I used control panel --> remove programme and uninstall. When i do this an error message pops up and says "The language of this installation package is not supported by your system".

Since that didnt work, i tried re-installing Office again using the CD but it came up with a error message saying "This setup has detected legacy groove and you must uninstall all legacy groove and microsoft groove server software before installing or upgrading to microsoft share point workspace"

Then, i tried customizing the installation by unmarking Microsoft Share point and the set up ran till the end and gave another error message saying that "this product key is already being used by Office 2010 or sumthing like that"

So im kinda stuck....so ur help would be much appreciated!

thanks!!!

Try doing an Office Repair :

    Repair or Uninstall Office 2010 / 2007 - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/repair-or-remove-office-2010-HA010357402.aspx?CTT=1

If that doesn't work (I suspect it won't, but it's worth a try), check to see if you have a "click to run" installation and let us know:

    Am I running Click-To-Run?

The quickest way to verify you have a CTR installation is go into Windows Explorer and look for an unexplained Q:\ (or R:) drive.

Another method of checking: Go to help panel of any working app: File tab / Help command and look at the Right side of the Backstage panel. It should say "Product Activated" for MSI install or "Click-to-Run Product Updates".

If you installed Office 2010 using Click to Run technology, there are no Office files on the C drive, but on a virtual Q drive. "Microsoft Office Client Virtualization Handler" will appear in the list of programs. Associate the Office files with that

Also see http://www.officeforlawyers.com/outlook/tips/2010beta.html for tips about uninstalling Click-to-run version.

CTR Introduction (Identify CTR installation) - https://office.microsoft.com/en-ca/excel-help/click-to-run-introduction-HA101850493.aspx?CTT=3

    What is Click to Run

Click-to-Run is a new Electronic Software Distribution (ESD) technology for Office 2010 that utilizes Microsoft’s streaming and virtualization technology. Click-to-Run provides a much faster and simpler download and installation experience for customers trying or buying Office 2010 over the Internet. Click-to-Run allows customers to maintain multiple versions of Office so customers can easily try Office 2010 side by side with an existing version of Office. Click-to-Run automatically downloads and installs any software updates when connected to the Internet, helping to maintain a more secure and up-to-date Office experience. At this time, only Office Home and Student 2010 and Office Home and Business 2010 will be available through Click-to-Run and limited based on broadband speed requirements.

**NOTE:**CTR is a relatively new approach to installing and running Office. Introduced with 2010. So very few technicians are aware of it, let alone familiar with trouble shooting it. As well, it introduces a whole new set of errors, like the one that you encountered. My personal recommendation is that unless you have a clearly identified need for it and explicitly requested the download, DON’T USE IT.

I was able to unistall and re-install again.....THANK U VERY MUCH!!!!

But i am still having some trouble with Microsoft word, because as soon as i double click to open a word document, it automatically says that Word is not responding and closes down. So then i am forced to open it in safe mode and then select from the recovery list to open the document! If u have any idea on how to fix this please do let me knw....thanks!!!!

Sorry about the typo's and thanks for the reply.

To correct - Microsoft Word wasn't working as well, so i decided to uninstall Office Pro.

I felt i did something wrong as soon as i cancelled during the unistall process!

Ill try what u have told me to do!

    Thanks again!

    to recap:

You have a new machine with Office Starter, but don't like it.

You install Office Pro Plus (where did you get it, it is rarely distributed, is it a time limited trial?).

Work? (Word?) wasn't working satisfactorily so you decided to uninstall, what Office Pro (or Starter)?

The uninstall was taking too long so you decided to kill it ... (oops)

Now when you try to uninstall you get the "language of this installation ..." message

Now when you try to install from CD you get message detecting "groove server"

This is a bit of a mixed up mess. So lets try to get everything uninstalled.

Try the "fix it" in the following tip. Then follow up with the manual method to verify everything is gone.

4 Uninstall Methods for Office via: Control Panel / Fix it / Trouble Shooter / Manuallyhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 2010

After you finish removing office, reboot the computer 2 times and try to re-install.

Something to consider. It may be simpler, faster, definitely cleaner to just re-install windows ... and everything else.

NOTE: the "language" error has been found to be related to uninstall problems. It is discussed in this link:

The language of this installation package is not supported by your system -http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office\_2010-office\_install/error-the-language-of-this-installation-package-is/7b877731-2156-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5****
