When using Microsoft Excel 2010 it freezes and produces a "Not Responding" message.  All work is lost.  Started when copying cells, but now occurs at random times.  What is the fix?

Check if Excel is running in Compatible Mode or as an Administrator. To do so do the following:

    In Windows 7 64bit -

C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\Excel.exe > right click on it > Properties > Compatibility > Uncheck “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and “Run this program as an administrator” then check how Word works.

    In Windows 7 32bit -

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\Excel.exe > right click on it > Properties > Compatibility > Uncheck “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and “Run this program as an administrator” then check how Word works.

Verify that you have Office 2010 Service pack 1 installed.

If issue persists, try restarting the system in Windows 7 clean boot mode and check:

Note: Ensure to restart the computer to normal mode once the troubleshooting is completed.

Check how Excel works in safe mode.

To do that, close Excel. Click on Start – All Programs – Accessories – Run, and in the open box type in excel /safe and hit ok. (Note: There is a space between Excel and /).

If Excel works in the safe mode, try disabling the addins associated with Excel and check.

    To Access Add-ins tab

Open Excel > Click on File > Options > Add-ins > Click on Go besides Com Addins.

    Uncheck the Addins listed there.

You may also provide the event logs related to Excel not responding:

"Windos cannot find  'excel'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again."

    I typed it correctly.

Help! This is so frustrating. I have to close Excel several times throughout the day, lose so much data that I'm saving practically every other change (which is a LOT), & so far today, have had to reboot 3 times.

I solved my problem by uninstalling the HP LJ 2015x printer, turning it off, unplugging the connections USB cable and LAN connection.  Then reconnecting the USB and LAN cables and turning the printer on.  Windows PnP found and installed the printer.  Excel now prints to the HP and Cannon printers.

My assumption that when I had downloaded the latest HP drivers for the HP LJ 2015x that they were also installed was probably false.  When I unstalled, disconnected and restarted, the correct driver was installed at that time.

FYI.  I did check the items you mentioned and determined the following:

No boxes were checked for compatibility mode.

Box for Run as Adminstrator was NOT checked.

Office 2010 Service Pack 1 was installed.

    Thanks for the assist.

    I, too, have this problem.

Background:  New ASUS computer, Win 7 x64 OS with Office 2010 Starter installed which was activated for Professional.  Excel opened, file from Excel 2007 opened successfully, changes can be made and file saved.  But when trying Print Preview or Print, Excel hangs (Not Responding).

I have tried running in Safe mode, problem presists.

I have check the addins.  None were checked (all disabled).

Printer is HP LaserJet 2015x.  Lastest files were downloaded from HP and installed as part of computer setup.

I have changed default printer to MS XPS Document Printer using Control Panel.

Now I do get the document print preview and can select options (they were not appearing with HP printer) but when I hit print, Excell freezes (Not Reponding).(As far as I know, I do not have such a printer installed.)

I also tried to print using Cannon MX880.  Print preview worked, but when I tried to print, Printing (Not Reponding) occurred.  Printer Control showed document "spooling.

    From the Event Log:

    General:

The program EXCEL.EXE version 14.0.6112.5000 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.
