It should not drop out of the file, because it's an integral part of it. Word places it on the header as a WordArt object.

Is it possible that your adressees cannot see it because of their Word settings? (Namely Preferences > View > Drawings on the Mac, Tools > Options > View > Drawings on XP, etc.).

Viewing the document in Draft view (old Normal view) won't show the watermark either.

Email the file to yourself, open it and check whether the watermark has disappeared. I don't think it will.

If you can get the watermark Copy along with the rest of the document is should paste. If you've tried and are unsuccessful, and don't the person on the other to be able to edit. Save as a PDF and send the PDF.

Also check to see if this item checked both in Print menu and View menu see this: http://www.screencast.com/t/7neJMTno

one its listed as drawing Objects the other drawing. these are not set you can't see or Print objects. and most likely won't be able to be copied.

Also when choosing paste. Try Paste Special  and choose exactly what you want pasted.
