Original Title: Error message in Word Options

I get this message: 'The server drafts location you entered for offline editing is not valid or you do not have permission to access this location. Specify a location on your local computer.' - This is my own Personal Computer.

I think I may have created this problem myself by renaming my folder in Libraries with my first name instead of my surname! I have since found that this is not the place to do this but no-one I have asked can tell me how to reverse it. I use my laptop for demonstrating how to use word to seniors at Seniornet, it was when I was showing how to add shortcuts to the Quick Access Toolbar in Word options I got the above message. This problem is a nusance and I would really lik to resolve it. It was suggested that I take the computer back to a restore point but as I have never done this I am afraid i might make matters worse. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Activate the File tab of the ribbon, then click Options.

Select Save in the navigation pane on the left hand side.

In the "Offline editing options ..." section, you'll see a path for the "Server drafts location".

Click Browse... and point to a valid folder on your computer.

I believe I have found a solution to the problem of the <Server drafts locations> folder not being retained.

At [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Common\Offline\Options], I found <Location> was missing. I added <Location> as <REG_SZ> and set its value to <D:\Documents and Settings>, a valid folder on my machine.

In Office 2013 Excel and Word the setting now persists.

I had this problem too and solved it.  My windows is a virtual machine (VM) running under VMware Fusion on a Mac. I had moved the VM to new hardware when I upgraded to a newer model.

The solution was to inspect and repair the registry entries under:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

For example the entry for desktop should be Desktop should be %USERPROFILE%\Desktop and not some other reference with 'vmware' in it.

Same goes for Documents.  Once these were fixed, the

server drafts location message did not reappear.

This does not work for me. The next time I open an Office 2013 document the Server Drafts location is blank.
