Some lines are more than double-spaced?

Some of the lines in my Word 2011 document have more than double-spaced. I highlight the text I am referring to and go to Format > Paragrapgh and it shows that the Line Spacing is Single.

What other setting might need to be changed?

Thanks.

I don't quite follow. You can control inter-paragraph spacing through the two pink-arrow icons in the Ribbon's Hometab. The change will apply to the selected paragraphs, and if there is no selection, only to the current paragraph.

Thus, you can do Edit > Select All (or simply press Command A) and modify the paragraph spacing in the whole document through those two icons. Alternatively, choose Format > Paragraph and specify zero for "Space After."

If you use the Paragraph format dialog box, any parameters that differ for the selection will be shown blank. For instance, if your selection includes text with Single Space and Double Space, that choice will be blank. Likewise, if some paragraphs in the selection have a Space After of 6 points and others have 0 points, there won't be a number in that field.

If it's not Space Before or Space After (you would have seen them as ≠ 0 in Format > Paragraph), it could be Format > Document > Layout > Vertical alignmentset to "Justified."

It did have 6 pt for spacing after and that seemed to take care of it. Is there some way to globally keep everything the same so I could than just go in and decide where I want lines to be double spaced and where I don't?

    Thanks.
