Where did the ability to toggle the Insert key to overlay text disappear to in Office 2010?

Prior to getting a new computer and upgrading to Windows 7 and MS Office 2010 both at home and at work, we used to use the Insert key on our keyboards to overlay existing test, rather then insert text then have to delete or backspace over the original.  It doesn't work that way any more.  Is this a defect, or is there another way we do that now, or was it's removal on purpose?

By the way, I just tried it in the body of this message, and it works.  However, it doesn't work on any of my Word documents.  Please let me know how I can get this feature back at both home and work on Microsoft Word 2010.

Thanks.

Molly

It's just an option setting. Click File > Options > Advanced. In the first group (Editing options), check the box for "Use the Insert key to control overtype mode".

If you want a reminder of which mode is active, right-click the status bar at the bottom of the Word window and click "Overtype" to check it. When the insert mode is active, the word 'Insert' appears on the status bar. If you press the Insert key or click the word on the status bar, the mode changes to overtype and the word in the status bar changes to 'Overtype'. Press the Insert key again or click the word again to switch back.
