How do I create fixed header in excel

I have created a large spreadsheet, but I get lost between columns sometimes. If I could leave the column headings always in view, and allow the remainder of the spreadsheet to scroll, it would help me no end.

Select the View tab, find the Windows panel and click the button labeled "Freeze Panes" in it... click the "Freeze Top Row" item in the list... that will freeze Row 1 (your headings) while you scroll the rest of the sheet.

I have three rows of header text (rows 1- 3).  When I select just those three rows and click on Freeze Panes on the View tab, it doesn't just freeze rows 1-3; it freezes rows 1-15.  Is there a way to just freeze rows 1-3?
