Numbering disappear when saving to DOCX

Hi,

I have a DOC file and when I'm saving to docx (both 2007 and 2010) all the numbering disappearing. I've tried converting the file but same reaction

Any thoughts why does it happen and what do I need to do in order not to lose my numbering (or recreating them)?

    I have also had this problem

    Document created in word 2003 using styles for paragraph numbering. Save as a .docx and the next time the document is opened all numbers have gone. We are about to upgrade to 2007 and have 1000s of documents with numbering created through styles.

    Any suggestions on how to deal with this would be appreciated.

    Thanks Stefan,

    I used the numbering by clicking the numbering icon on the toolbar (Word 2003). I save the file as docx, close the file and open again > No numbering.

     the "Automatically update document styles" option is cleared.

    Do I need to change the numbering for each doc file? I didn't quite understand what to do?

    Thanks Ganesh,

    The file has tables and numbering. Once I copy it to notepad all is ruin.  so I can't use this method.

    Any suggestions?

    Does this issue occur with all the files or only with particular files?

    Try to create a new docx file. Copy the content from the doc file to the new docx document and see if you face the same issue.

    Which kind of numbering are you referring to? Page numbering? Paragraph numbering?
