File block settings

I am trying to save documents in Word 2010 and am getting a message telling me that it is being 'blocked by the 'file block settings in the trust centre':

This error occurs when you open a Microsoft Office file type blocked by File Block settings in the Trust Center. To enable this file type, do the following:

Click the File tab.

Under Help, click Options.

Click Trust Center, and then click Trust Center Settings.

In the Trust Center, click File Block Settings.

To save documents with this file type, disable the registry policy setting. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 922850.

I've tried to follow the link to stop this happening but it doesn't help at all - ends up with a reference to a website but no link to the address.

Can somebody please give me EXPLICIT AND EAST TO UNDERSTAND instructions on how to sort this out - it is holding up my work and is the latest in a long line of frustrations with this product.

Yes, this is kind of stupid, but... When I click the link in the 922850 article under the heading "Word 2010, Word 2007, or Word 2003", it goes to the page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922849. Scrolling down to the "Method 1" heading and clicking the "Click here" link under "Word 2010", that opens an illustration of how to use the Options dialog in Word to change the file block settings.

While it's nice to have the illustrations, almost everything you need to do is already described in the error message you quoted:

    Click the File tab.

    Under Help, click Options.

Click Trust Center, and then click Trust Center Settings.

In the Trust Center, click File Block Settings.

Once you get to the File Block Settings page, clear the check boxes next to the file type(s) you need to open or save.

Thank you so much for your clear instructions. Based on other instructions I was attempting to follow I was checking the boxes which I should've been clearing.  You've saved me so much time!

What was the origin of the document that you are trying to open?

OK - I have followed the instructions for Word in Office 2015 (Office 365) and made the changes in the trust center, allowing anything and everything to happen.  the file still won't open.  Then I made the registry changes mentioned in 922850, rebooted, and still the file won't open.  I am now out of options.  What should I do next?

Thank you  - just the straightforward instruction that I needed and that I couldn't find following the 922850 article string.
