We are in the middle of moving everyone to Office 2010 and have run into an issue where .snp files were created in an earlier version and now there isn't a viewer available. Any help for this?

    Hi George,

As discussed in the following articles, the ability to export a report as a snapshot file is not available in Access 2010.  The recommendation going forwards is to export to PDF or XPS.

    Changes in Access 2010 - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179181.aspx

Discontinued features and modified functionality in Access 2010 - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access-help/discontinued-features-and-modified-functionality-in-access-2010-HA101806473.aspx

If you want to view existing .snp files, you should be able to download the viewer from the following link:

Snapshot Viewer for Microsoft Access - http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=13911

    Best Regards,

    Hi George,

As mentioned above you should be able to downloaded the Snapshot Viewer for Microsoft Access and install this on the users machines.  This will allow the users to double click on existing files and open them.  It just won’t let them create new .snp files within Access 2010.

    Best Regards,

    Nathan O.

This download does not appear to work with x64 systems.  The install errored out on my computer with Office 2010 installed.

    Hi Nathan,

It's all good. The install on my local machine (even though I have local admin. rights) was failing when it came to doing some registry changes. Once that was cleared up and the viewer installed clean it worked no problem. Now we can deploy to users that need it.

    Thanks for your help.

    George

    Hi Nathan,

Thanks for the reply. For my particular issue using the viewer that's not compatible with Access 2010 is not an option because the users (3,500) have been migrated from Office 2007 to 2010. Now I have a group of users that have these .snp that they need to open and view. If MS doesn't have anything that will work for 2010 users is there a 3rd party software that you can recommend?

    Thanks,

    George
