Printing to specific paper types

When using Word 2007 I can not print to the paper types that appear in the Page tab of the Page Setup dialogue box.  If a specific tray is selected it will print to that tray but if I select 'preprinted' for example it will print to the paper type that is setup in the printing preferences box which may be 'letter head'.  This should not happen as the application should over-write the driver settings.  The printer is a LaserJet 5000 and the paper types are correctly configured. What I have noticed is that the in printer preferences there is an option for paper source and paper type, however, in the Word Page Setup dialogue box there is only one option.

Word itself has never offered this option. The paper sizes it lists on the Paper tab of Page Setup are provided by the printer driver. The type of paper (finish) must be selected from the printer Properties (in the Print dialog).

This is not good. With in word application their should be a option to specify the type of paper. In case if user has multi page document.Where in the first few pages are printed on special media like letterhead and rest from regular paper type. Its hard to manually specify which has to be printed on or from which paper tray.

So this is a bug with in microsoft or a product limitation

In word 2007, there was an option to  select what finish of paper you wanted to  print on i.e glossy . semi gloss or matt. Then  there was an additional selection if you wanted to print on card or paper plus all sizes A4 A5 A6 and  so on. So far on the word 2010, this isnt possible and i find it very difficult  to use.. PLEASE!! A CHANG IT BACK !!!  Microsoft, youve ruined it.

    Doug,

Thanks for the reply.  Word should not need to know what paper is in what tray because I have told the printer throught the HP Web Admin utility which paper type is in which tray.  So in theory what I think should happen is that word should print to 'preprinted' and the printer will sort out which tray to print to but it does not work.

How would you expect Word to know what paper is actually loaded in to each tray?
