Hello,

i am having a rather frustrating time with this issue, a user of mine (specifically in accounts) has this issue whereby if she tries saving a excel file using the save as function then excel dies on her. i have replaced her whole machine and re-installed office twice. i did notice that both occurances of this came in after office updates where installed but even after uninstalling it, it doesn't seem to work.

i cannot keep going through replacing machines everytime she has an issue. can someone please help me out with this?

here is the error code generated:

Does ANYONE at MS answer questions?  or just ask more questions?  These crashes are all over the net and in my new system as well [Windows 7 Pro HP h8-1090t desktop 64 bit OS 12.0 GB RAM] EVERY 30 minutes or so without a 'save' or any other specific REASON, it's not 'user' specific, it HAPPENS and it happens allot.

Does Excel crash when she tries to save one particular file or it happens with all Excel files?

Is the computer on a network/domain?

Try opening Excel in safe mode, then try to save the file and check if the issue reoccurs. Click on Start > Run > type excel /safe in the Run prompt to open Excel in safe mode.

I had a similar issue. Problem was with the Office Install. Running a repair on Microsoft Office did NOT fix the issue.

I checked the installed programs and found an old plug. Removed that and removed a feature from the office install. (Programs and Features > Change/unisntall > Add/Remove Features> Remove the Publisher feature. Restarted the computer and the mso.dll error that occured with excel is now gone!

Seems as though a repair doesn't handle the same things as add/removing a feature.

Firstly most of us are not from MS….we’re mostly a group of MS users experienced on certain MS applications. And whoever we are….we sometimes need answers to certain questions…so that we can eventually give proper suggestions. Understand one thing….we’re not asking questions for the heck of it…we’re trying to help you out here…(sorry for being upright…no hard feelings pls)

As far as the issue is concerned, this crash can happen due to multiple reasons… no clear cut answer….

Is your computer connected to a network or domain..? Bcoz the issue is mostly domain related…

Did you check in safe mode? (start-run-type ‘excel /safe’ – hit OK)

If excel work fine in safe mode…then the culprit could be the addins. Disable the addins from File-Options-Addins and then see how it works.

If that don’t work, create a new windows user account and then check how excel works in the new account.. this could resolve any user acc related issues….

The frequency is too low to troubleshoot at the moment, i've seen it 3 times in different files with 1 user (out of 30 working 8 hours a day). All files are on the network (3x ubuntu 10.04 Servers with Samba).

What does the mso.dll and Exception code 0xc0000005 signify?
