Word 2010 changes page size from A4 to letter before printing, even though all defaults are set to A4, brother MFC 8890DW

Hi. All the documents I print in Word 2010 to my new Brother MFC 8890DW printer are reduced in size. The document is A4 in page setup, Word 2010's default paper size is set to A4, the printer is setup to default print as A4, but when I go to Brother's printer properties it says "Letter", even though the paper size setting in Word 2010 is "A4"!

Bizzarely, even though the paper size setting in Word says "A4", when I click on A4, then go to Brother's Printer properties, it then says "A4" and prints out properly!!

This is a temporary fix. HOWEVER, my staff can't use this solution for every document - it dramatically reduces productivity as we print hundreds of documents daily. Is there a permanent solution that will work for ALL documents automatically???

Brother support has been useless - they put the blame entirely on MS Word 2010 and claim it is a problem for all printers, even though I have never seen this with any of our other printers.

This is what there FAQs state:

http://welcome.solutions.

These are their responses:

"That setting is controlled by Microsoft Word. You have to make the change to A4, then save the document so that the settings remain there for the next time you need to print.

This is not a fault with the printer, any printer that you use will have the same issue."

"As explained before, the page setup of the Word Document has nothing to do with the Printer Properties of the Brother Driver. This is all done from within Microsoft Word. Each Document gets its Paper and Tray settings from configuration of the setup on the Computer the file was originally created on. We cannot provide any other alternative then to manually change the page setup of each document you receive from another source."

Surely there must be a patch/ update/ workaround for this either with MS word or for the Brother printer??

If A4 is set as the default paper size in the printer Properties AND in Word's Normal template, then that's the size that should be the default in a new document. If not, then you can select that size in Page Setup. But note that there is a setting at File | Options | Advanced: Print to "Scale content for A4 or 8.5 x 11" paper sizes." You might want to try changing this setting from whatever is currently set.

I had this problem with a Brother printer. Unchecking "Scale contents for A4 or 8.5x11" did not work at first. It did once I had done the following:

Go to: Control Panel\Clock, Language and Region

In "Language" ensure that you have the English (UK) language pack downloaded and it is at the top of the list and in its "options" ensure that "Windows display language" is set and the input method says "United Kingdom". In the advanced settings I left "use Language List (recommended)" set.

    In Region;

    Set "Format" to "English (UK)"

    Set "Home location" to "English"

In "administrative" set "language for non-unicode program"s to "English (UK)"

Don't know if you have to do all of these, but my problem appears to be fixed. As my settings had previously been "English US" I am guessing that for US users word assumes they will have to print on letter size whatever paper size they may have selected.

    Thanks Suzanne

It seems to be working now!

Tried changing various settings - un-clicking File | Options | Advanced: Print to "Scale content for A4 or 8.5 x 11" paper sizes." seemed to do the trick, but not sure as changed several settings.

Either way, won't be changing any settings while it keeps working!

    Thanks again

In the backstage print view, if you access the 1 Page Per Sheet pull down and click on the Scale to Paper Size, is it set to No Scaling?
