MS Project 2010 Indent Outdent

I just purchased MS Project Professional 2010. I have been playing with a few small new projects to get familiar with the software. One of the project files has the indent, outdent tabs grayed out and will not let me set sub-tasks or outdent to set summary tasks. The other project files seem to work fine. What can be done to correct the problem.

Thanks in advance.

    RAD_878,

My guess is that you have grouping applied. Go to the View tab on the ribbon and then look at the Data section. The Group By should say [no group].

Another possibility is that you are in the Resource or Task Usage view. The user cannot control indenture in those views.

    Hope this helps.

    John

Same issue using Project 2007 for the first time on an existing Project 2007 project.  You nailed it ... when I changed it to sort by ID the indent, outdent and show tool options un-greyed themselves and became active.  Looked at this for hours today with most forum answers being worthless.  You had the answer that fixed my issue.  Thank you!

I have been using Project 2007 for years.  I just got Project 2010.  I created a new task in my project.  However when I tried to indent the task to put it under the proper sub-heading, the indent and outdent entries in the context menu no longer exist.  The above discusses indent and outdent tabs being grayed out.  But there are no indent and outdent tabs.

How am I supposed to add new task where they belong?

New buttons hidden and disguised in Schedule section of Task bar.

Another possibility again is the project is sorted other than by ID. Sort by ID to fix this.
