I have several users who are running Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac (version 2.1.1) who can no longer access Remote Desktop Services because the client doesnt support RDP 7.1. Will the mac client be updated to support this update in the protocol on our Remote Desktop Servers?

Many Thanks

Microsoft has been silent about any future plans for RDC for Mac. The

application hasn't been updated in quite some time and isn't supported

on anything later than Snow Leopard.

I'm not saying they've abandoned the product but my opinion is that

folks should be looking for alternatives such as CoRD. If they haven't

updated it to work with Lion and Mountain Lion and newer versions of the

RDP protocol then I don't see much hope.

    Hey Michael

Getting any information on RDC is hard to come by! I have an alternate source that you might want to check out:

    http://blog.officeformac.com/

There are a couple Twitter & Facebook links that you might be able to contact the Office for Mac team or at least follow them as they post to the Blog fairly regularly.

    Thanks...

mac osx, w2k8r2 TS server: "you were disconnected from the windows-based computer because of problems during the licensing protocol". M$ mac RDP client 2.1.2, which appears to be a Microsoft release, fixed my problem. The problem is that you cannot download it from Microsoft! I think it’s a requested hotifx. But I found it on these 3rd party links:

it’s a shame M$ doesn’t release the file here. Once more, M$ is losing its edge!:

As I said earlier, the server without remote desktop session server is working perfect.  What is the trigger causing remote session blocking the 2.1.1 mac client to login?.

From what we can see the trigger seems to be Service Pack 1 which upgrades the RDP connection to RDP 7.1

People who have applied the service pack have been able to uninstall it which has resolved their issue, however our recent installations have have been using the Server 2008 R2 SP1 media where the service pack can not be removed.

We have had to consider deploying servers without the service pack to our customers which for obvious reasons isn't ideal.

I have the same exact issue after upgrading a server into 2008 R2.  I have the data server with administrative remote desktop on, and a Hyper-V RD/VPN server.  Both servers are identical in 2008 R2 version with latest patches & updates as of 9-16-12.  The administrative RD works with 2.1.1 RDC Mac Client, the remote desktop/vpn server does not work with the mac client.  So it has to do with the Remote Desktop Session Server running RDP 7.1.

I have a different 2008 R2 RD/VPN server running RDP 6.1 (7.0), it works fine with the remote 2.1.1mac client, this server has not been updated with the latest patches and updates.

My only guess is, it has to do with something in RemoteFX since this is the major new feature with RDP 7.1.  I would like this to be resolved soon as possible since I have several OSX notebooks that VPN/RD into the server outside the office, as of now they are unable to connect using the Microsoft Remote Desktop client and temporary using CoRD.

Now it would be excellent if I can downgrade RDP 7.1 into 7.0, the problems will be solved until Microsoft works the bugs out with RDP 7.1.

Lets try to solve this issue together, I'm sure it hasn't been a major issue yet because many 2008 R2 servers are running RDP 6.1 (7.0).

As I said earlier, the server without remote desktop session server is working perfect.  What is the trigger causing remote session blocking the 2.1.1 mac client to login?.

Add on: I also have a different 2008 R2 server I installed in June, this setup is a replica of the server installed this week.  This server is running RDP 7.1 and has the same issue with the Mac client not logging on.
