Word 2010 SmartArt Mind map spider

Hi, I have seen a spider like mind map diagram, but can't find it in SmartArt.  It looks rather like one of the relationship diagrams, with a central circle and then other circles around it.  The ones I have seen online are similar, but have room to type lines of text, rather than trying to fit text into the circules.  Any suggestions?  Many thanks.

Are you referring to the radar (web) chart?

If yes, unfortunately it’s not available as a SmartArt object in Word.

The web chart can be created using the Chart option in Word.

In Word, click on Insert > Illustrations group > Click on Chart > select Radar from the list on the left side.

However, you may try to use the Stacked Venn diagram using the SmartArt option and check if that serves your purpose.

In Word, click on Insert > Illustrations group > Click on SmartArt > click on Relationship > scroll down and select Stacked Venn.

I haven't seen a SmartArt for mind mapping. You will have to google search for it. There may be one out there. MS does allow us to add new SmartArts to our installations.

In the mean time you may want to fall back to Shapes instead.  Insert the appropriate shape, give it a short despcriptive title text, put the rest of the text you want in a separate shape that has had the outside borders turned off so the shape is not visible.

You can use "Connector" type lines, rather than simple (non-connector) lines, to join the shapes in the mind map. Connectors stay attached to the objects when you move objects. Simple lines do not attach to shapes.

This tip explains the difference in line types:

    Using Connectors with Shapes

You may also want to consider using a dedicated tool. Again, google is your friend, there are many mind map tools for you to find.  Using the shapes approach is kind of pushing word to do things at the edge of it's capabilities.

I did some more research, and to my surprise I found that people are using Smart Art for mind mapping. There are a few templates taht look useable, however, I don't think I'd want to use Smart Art to draw a mind map from scratch during a brainstorming session.
