How to delete blank space in header/footer?

I have a very large document (over 70 pages) most of my headers and footers are doing what I want them to, but I have a handful of pages that have this extra blank space in the headers and footers and i'd like it to look consistent across the document. How can I get rid of this extra blank space??

Thanks,

Paul

Ajust the header / footer margins.

The easiest way is to turn on the ruler, then dragging both the top and bottom of the header indicator.

You would have to do this in each of the affected sections separately.

You could do it using the "Page Setup" dialog, but I think you'll find dragging more visual and easier. At least for the first one. After you set the first one, you could get the values from the Page Setup dialog and repeat the magin values in other sections so they all look the same.

In that example, you do have an extra paragraph in the footer, and the header margin appears to have been reduced. Keep in mind that, when a document contains more than one section, the default application for settings in the Page Setup dialog is "This section." If you want to change header or footer margins for the entire document, you must select "Whole document" under "Apply to."

Hello. I think I am having a similar issue. I have a letterhead template and the header is about 2" and the header is not shown if text moves to the second page, however, there is that 2" gap at the top of page 2 like the first page. I tried adjusting the ruler, but it also effects page 1.

Under Header and Footer I have Different First Page and Show Document Text selected.

I'll keep playing around with it, but thought I would ask.

I am using Microsoft Word for Mac 2017.

    Thank you.

thanks for the reply.. here is the page that was directly above it.. I found that the footer isn't really a problem as I have included page numbers.. but i'd like the header space to be like this (the page above the last one):

That doesn't look like "extra" blank space to me. The default header and footer margins are 0.5", which is what that appears to be. The header therefore looks as expected unless you have a smaller header margin set, in which case it could be that the header paragraph has some Spacing After.

The footer, on the other hand, does appear incorrect. Given the default 0.5" footer margin, I would expect the empty paragraph to be immediately below the broken blue line indicating the footer area. In this case, it is likely that the footer paragraph has some Spacing Before, but removing it won't remove the "extra space" unless the footer margin is reduced below 0.5".
