Which version of Word are you using? (2003/2007/2010)

Is this a standalone version of Word or is it part of the Office suite?

You may repair Word/Office from the Control Panel and check if it helps.

    a.       On the keyboard, press the Windows key + R.

    b.      Type appwiz.cpl in the Open box, and then hit OK.

    c.       Select Microsoft Word or the Office suite and click on Change.

    d.      Select Repair and click on Continue.

You may restart the computer once the repair is done.

I am using the disc which came with this gateway computer which is " Microsoft Works Suite 2003.  I assume that my word is on this disc since the disc came with the computer.

I do not seem to be able to uninstall Word from the computer nor can I install.  I have never heard the expression "flat" is that the same as disc?  Sorry to be so computer illiterate.  LOL

NO.  The suggestion was the you create a new folder on your hard drive and into that folder you copy the entire contents of the Microsoft Works CD.  Then you access that folder using WIndows Explorer and locate the Setup.exe file and double click on that to run it.

Note, you have never posted the exact text of the error message that you are receiving, which is something that Anoop had asked you to do and which may give those that are trying to help you additional clues.

Even though it refers to Office, rather than Works, you might try the second method under the Resolution section of the article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327854/en-us?spid=2533&sid=485

using your Works CD where in that method it refers to the Office CD.  Note that the article says that you must hold down the Shift key when inserting the CD and the purpose of that is to prevent the installation from running automatically and rather have it run from the Control Panel by following the next steps in that article.
