Android OneNote - Data removed and misplaced sections

Having put up with mobilenoter for some time, I was over the moon when OneNote for android was released as I am a fairly heavy onenote user and was fed up of how slow sync was. All was fine for some time, however I have had one problem regularly for some time, and now consistently, and a new problem that is recent but happening all the time.

First of all, the one which has been around for some time :-

When opening onenote on the tablet, I am increasingly receiving the message :-

"Source content not found

Notes have been deleted. It will be removed from the phone."

Note weird grammar is not a typo here, but is copied exactly from the messagebox. Hitting 'close' (the only option) typically then prompts onenote to start syncing again, however if you're offline then you can't continue as there appears to be no data on the tablet. This is currently meaning that the onenote app cannot be relied upon for times when no data is available - whether away from signal or abroad with no data plan. I have seen this on both phone and tablet, although far more commonly on the tablet recently.

Secondly - in the last few days I have started experiencing the problem of "misplaced sections" - an update made while offline appeared to prompt the issue. Once the error pages were in the misplaced sections area, there is no capability to move them to where they should be. I had to revert to taking a screenshot of the pages on the tablet, transferring the images to the laptop, adding to onenote, then copying the text out using the desktop onenote OCR capabilities. Then, in order to remove that section, I had no alternative but to remove all the data from the tablet. This is a fault on two levels, first of all the fault condition should not ideally occur however, when it does, there is no acceptable route to escape the fault condition.

Once this problem was shown to repeat itself, I then removed the onenote app from the tablet, restarted the tablet, reinstalled onenote and then re-sync'd the content. The problem reappeared the next time I tried to edit a page. This problem does not occur on my android phone which is also running onenote. No problems are observable on either laptop or desktop running onenote 2010 and linking to the same databases in skydrive.

For scale, I have just under 500 notes in skydrive, but have previously upgraded to the paid onenote version.

Tablet - Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Android 3.2

Phone - HTC Desire S, Android 2.3.5

Screenshots are available upon request, not sure I can upload to this forum.

I'd love to hear any suggestions for further diagnosis, managing this problem, or  hopefully to hearing about imminent fixes!

Many thanks

Matt

Thanks for your reply Mark, unfortunately that doesn't address the use case above. The "misplaced sections" is a peer of my notebooks in the mobile app, therefore does not sync with the PC, otherwise as you say I could simply move them in the desktop app and there would be no issue other than a minor usability one.

Good thought about being a specific notebook, unfortunately I have seen this with all three of the notebooks I use.

    Thanks for your help though!

    Matt

The "Misplaced Sections" on my tablet are not sync'd, so I am unable to open them on a PC version of OneNote.  I am trying to move or copy notes/sections from the Misplaced Sections on the tablet to a notebook that would be sync'd, but the tablet does not support this.

Not sure if this is the same behavior as the original poster, but this is what is happening to me.

My tablet is a Motorola Xoom, running Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on the Verizon network.

    Kernel version:

    2.6.39.4-g42a0480

    android-build@vpbs1 #1

SMP PREEMPT Tue Mar 13 15:58:08 PDT 2012

    Build number

    IMM76L

Like the original poster, this happened to me when I updated a note offline (on the subway where I had no signal), so perhaps this bug is specific to working offline?

For me, I was particularly looking forward to OneNote Mobile on my tablet to make use of that commute time, working on the subway when disconnected is my primary use-case.  Thanks in advance, the product looks very powerful otherwise -- if it can work offline, I am very much looking forward to using it and removing Evernote.

Has anyone had the "source content not found" issue? It doesn't even appear in google when you search so I'm wondering how uncommon it is!

    [Edit]

I just got slightly excited when my google alert rss feed popped up a link to a page about "source content not found". Clicked on the link, unfortunately it was my post above......... at least it's almost the weekend.....

    Hi John,

Sounds like we have the same problem - mine seems to be related to offline working, although that was something I did regularly with android onenote prior to this point, but now seems to be broken. Maybe a recent update caused the problem.

Have you tried taking a screenshot of your misplaced sections and then OCRing them using the desktop side? It works fairly well and saves a lot of typing! Doesn't help much if you have lots of pictures though....

Unfortunately, to move a misplaced section, that notebook needs to be opened in PC version of Onenote.

Provide a feedback to MS to include that feature in android app.

Regarding the issue, do you face this with a particular notebook?

If yes, create a new notebook in PC, move the section one at a time, sync them and check again.
