How change table 'border lines,' etc.?

I've just started using Office Web Apps (Mac version, Chrome browser).

After creating a table in WORD, I don't see any options for changing anything except table structure (add/delete rows, columns, etc.).

The 'Table Tools' categories I see are only these:  Select, Delete, Insert, Alignment.

How, e.g., can I change the 'border lines' for the table (from the default 'gray')?

I don't even see any options for changing the basic formatting of text (e.g., bold, italics, different font, etc.)

Where are all these things to be found?

Thanks.

    Hi mkraft77,

It sounds like you are using the Word Web App in its editing mode. Unfortunately we don't currently have support there for rich table formatting.

If you previously applied table formatting in the Word Desktop App (such as Word 2010 or the Word 2013 Preview), then open the document in edit mode of the Word Web App, the web app will preserve your formatting.  However, it won't show you that formating or give you the ability to edit it.  (You can always see exactly how the document looks in the View mode of the Word Web App.)

Thanks for the feedback that these features are important for you. We're always working to improve the product by listening to customer feedback.

I know you want people to subscribe to Office365, but the Office Web App functionalities should be on par with google docs, if you want people to make the switch.

Web applications are very basic. The grey lines will be black when you print, you can see them in reading view.

General formatting can be achieved using the Home tab, font and paragraph group.

Thanks.  Do you mean that the 'grey border line' is the only border line available on-screen, and that all table border lines print as black lines in a non-alterable thickness?

What I read to date made it seem that only advanced features, such as 'mail merge,' 'tables of contents,' and indexes,' aren't available in the web version.

Control of the appearance of table border lines (whether on-screen or in printing) seems a pretty basic feature to me.

Is there any 'help' and/or reference document, etc. that compares the 'OWA' and 'desktop' versions of WORD, so that a user can clearly see what document features can be shared between the two versions without running into significant compatibility issues or lack of support in the OWA version for features in documents created using the desktop version of WORD?

    Thanks again.
