Here are some free options that might do what you want:

    Picasa 3.9 Build 136.7: http://filehippo.com/download_picasa/

    FastStone Image Viewer 4.6: http://filehippo.com/download_faststone_image_viewer/

    IrfanView 4.33: http://filehippo.com/download_irfanview/

    Paint.NET 3.5.10: http://filehippo.com/download_paint.net/

    The Gimp 2.8.2: http://filehippo.com/download_the_gimp/

I would suggest you follow the links to the home sites of each of these and read about them to decide which might give you the functionality you seek.

By the way, you do know that you can change the file view format to thumbnail images in Windows Explorer in case that is all you need for a quick comparision?

I'm not aware of a Microsoft app with that option but the

Unfortunately there is no tool in Microsoft Office suite which can compare images side by side. The only option is to compare the documents, spreadsheet or presentations.
