A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
Note that dragging the table by its handle (even just nudging it a short distance) makes it wrapped; that is, it accomplishes the same thing as changing the "Text wrapping" (on the Table tab of Table Properties) from None to Around. This is important to know because many problems with tables arise from their being wrapped when you think they are inline.
Other important things to know:
- If the table is at the very top of the document, with no text paragraph preceding it, you can generate a text paragraph above it by pressing Enter at the very beginning of the first table cell. To make sure you are at the very beginning of the document (since Enter anywhere else will just insert a paragraph break inside the table), press Ctrl+Home.
- You can get out of the table by pressing the right arrow at the end of the last cell, but this should not be necessary, as there is always a text paragraph (even if empty) below the table, and you can click in it. If you have nonprinting characters (or at least paragraph marks) displayed, this is easier to see.
- You must make the table wrapped if you want to wrap text around it (above, below, and to the side), but if you just want to type text beside a table, the easiest way is to insert another column, remove any borders, merge cells if there are more than one, and use the added cell to type text that will appear to be outside the table.
